On Friday, 18 February 2022, at around 9:30 A.M., Hazem Tawafshah (45), his son Musa (14) and his brother Rashed (28) walked to their farmland, which spans 10 dunams about three kilometers north of the village. About half an hour after they began working the land, the three noticed a settlement security guard and four soldiers approaching other Palestinian farmers who were working about 150 meters away and ordering them to leave. The settlement guard and the soldiers then approached the Tawafshah family and ordered them to leave on the pretext that it was state land. The family refused and called the Palestinian DCO. After about half an hour, a representative of the Israeli DCO arrived and told them they were allowed to continue their work provided there would be no gathering of people in the area.

The three continued their work until about noon, when a vehicle with an Israeli license plate arrived. About 10 masked settlers armed with clubs and handguns, including the settlement guard, got out. The settlement guard and two other settlers remained by the vehicle, and the rest split into two groups and began attacking the farmers. The settlers chased the two brothers, attacked them with clubs and knocked them to the ground. The settlement guard then approached them and threatened they would be attacked if they came to their land again. Meanwhile, two of the soldiers who had tried to drive out the farmers earlier approached and asked the brothers what happened. After about 20 minutes, an ambulance the brothers ordered arrived and took them to hospital in Ramallah. The medical examination found that Hazem had bruises on his chest and left hand, and Rashad was injured in the left eye and bruised in the left leg. They were treated and discharged about three hours later. On Monday, 28 February 2022, the brothers filed a complaint at the Binyamin police station after the Yesh Din organization coordinated their arrival.

In a testimony he gave B’Tselem researcher Iyad Hadad, Rashed Tawafshah described the attack:

Suddenly, we saw a vehicle driving fast towards us from about 100 meters away. We assumed they were going to attack us, but we didn’t have a car there and had no way to escape. We stood still. Ten settlers got out of the vehicle. Three of them, one of whom was the settlement guard, stayed next to it, and the other seven divided into two groups and came over to my brother and me. Some of the settlers were holding clubs, others had stones and some were carrying handguns. They were masked. At first, they threatened us with guns and shouted at us to drop the axes we were holding and get out of there. I dropped my axe, and one of them immediately picked it up and threw it at me. I managed to dodge it and wasn’t hurt. Another settler started shoving me in the chest and trying to knock me down, and then two other settlers joined in and also pushed me. I kept taking steps back until I fell down, and then one of them came up to me and hit me in the leg with a club. Then two others punched me in my head, face and back. I tried to shield my face as much as possible, until one of them hit me with something sharp in the left eye. I started shouting “Allahu Akbar” because I was in a lot of pain, and then they left me alone and went away. Meanwhile, three settlers attacked my brother. When they were done attacking us, the settlement guard came over to us with a club and threatened they'd attack us if we came back to the land. They stole our tools and left.
