On Tuesday, 6 August 2024, while Khalil ‘Awad (38) was grazing his flock, numbering about 300 sheep, in the wheat and barley fields on his private land, 320 meters south of the homes of the Palestinian community of Khirbet a-Tuba in Masafer Yatta, four masked settlers arrived armed with clubs. Two of them began leading ‘Awad’s flock in the direction of the Havat Ma’on outpost, and the other two approached him. ‘Awad cried out for help and the settlers backed off. A few minutes later, ‘Awad’s wife, ‘Aishah ‘Awad (35), arrived and called his nephew, ‘Ali ‘Awad (26) and the three of them went towards the outpost and found their flock about 70 meters away from it. When they walked up to the flock, three of the settlers who invaded the family’s land came out of the outpost, pushed them and beat ‘Aishah and ‘Ali with clubs. ‘Aishah was slightly bruised in the face and ‘Ali was hit in the leg and fell to the ground, at which point the settlers backed away. The family members led the flock back to the community. The crew of an ambulance residents of the community had called treated ‘Aishah on-site and took ‘Ali to a-Rashed Medical Center in the town of Yatta. He was diagnosed with fractures in his left leg, ankle inflammation and bruises on his back. ‘Ali was treated and discharged the same day. The family members filed a complaint with the Palestinian DCO.
