On Saturday, 16 April 2022, at around 12:30 P.M., shepherds Shaker Abu ‘Alia (23) and ‘Anan Abu ‘Alia (19) were leading their flock home along a dirt road east of the community when four settlers suddenly appeared, riding ATVs. The settlers taunted the shepherds and ran over their dog, breaking two of his legs. A few minutes later, they were joined by five other settlers, who attacked the shepherds with pipes and sticks. ‘Anan Abu ‘Alia was injured in the head and Shaker Abu ‘Alia in the body. The two were taken to the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah, where they were treated and discharged that evening.
Israel’s regime of apartheid and occupation is inextricably bound up in human rights violations. B’Tselem strives to end this regime, as that is the only way forward to a future in which human rights, democracy, liberty and equality are ensured to all people, both Palestinian and Israeli, living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
