Three days of destruction in East Jerusalem: Municipality demolishes three structures
On 26 October 2020, a couple with a baby had to demolish their own home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina. The next day, 27 October 2020, the municipality demolished a two-story structure under construction in the new ‘Anata neighborhood intended for residential and commercial use. A day later, on 28 October 2020, the municipality demolished a structure under construction, which included an apartment and shops.
Israel does not view the Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem as human beings with equal rights and tries to drive them out of the city by permitting them almost no legal construction. When they build illegally, the authorities demolish their homes.
Many Palestinians demolish their own homes after receiving notice from the municipality, in order to avoid the municipal charge for the demolition, which amounts to tens of thousands of dollars.
