In recent years — and especially since 7 October 2023 — there has been a sharp increase in both the number and severity of settler attacks against Palestinians. The incidents reported on this blog do not reflect all incidents of settler violence in the West Bank, but only those that B’Tselem was able to document and investigate.

At around 10:00 A.M., four settlers again grazed their sheep on ‘Ali Abu Muhsen’s land. Activists who were there called the police, and residents called the Palestinian DCO. Israeli police officers arrived and after the residents showed them deeds for the property, removed the settlers and their flock and warned them not to return.

At around noon, two settlers arrived in a pickup truck at some pastureland north of al-Farisiyah, where several members of the community were grazing their flocks, including three brothers from the Abu Muhsen family. The settlers ran over two sheep, and then came out of the truck with clubs in their hands, attacked Barakat Abu Muhsen, hitting him on the legs, and hit, chased and threw stones at the flock. Israeli soldiers and police officers, who arrived at the scene, drove away the other shepherds and suggested the brothers file a complaint at the Ma’ale Efrayim police station. A Palestinian ambulance took Barakat to a hospital in Tubas, where he was treated for bruises and discharged 30 minutes later.

After midnight, Israeli activists who were spending the night in the community heard a tractor humming and saw seven settlers plowing a plot of land owned by ‘Ali Zuhdi, a resident of the community. Some of the settlers were throwing stones at community homes and threatening families. When the activists approached them, one of the settlers pepper sprayed an activist in the eye, and the others attacked him with stones. When another activist came to his defense, a settler lunged at him, knocked him down and kicked him until his head bled. While the activist called the police and an ambulance, a settler unsuccessfully tried to snatch his cell phone away from him. Then all the settlers left.

At 7:00 A.M., settlers arrived in the community in ATVs, a car and on foot with a flock of sheep. They brought bags of fodder with them, placed them in front of the tent homes belonging to ‘Ali Daraghmeh and his family and fed their flock. Activists who were present at the scene called the police, which allowed the settlers to carry on. The settlers left only after the flock consumed all the bags of fodder.
