Fifty-two structures demolished in East Jerusalem and al-Quds District on orders of Israeli authorities, June-July 2021
In June and July 2021, 52 structures were demolished in East Jerusalem and the nearby al-Quds District, some of which were under construction. Twenty-two were residential buildings and 11 of those, which were owned by 11 families numbering 52 people in total, including 24 minors, were inhabited. Eleven other residential buildings were under construction or not yet inhabited. Five of the homes were demolished by the authorities and 17 were demolished by their owners on the authorities’ orders. In addition, 30 non-residential structures including a school under construction were demolished, 11 of them by their owners.
Some of the demolitions were captured in the following videos.
Israel’s policy prevents almost any Palestinian construction in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. When Palestinians build structures anyway, as they have no other choice, Israel issues them demolition orders, in some cases carrying them out or forcing the owners to do so.
