B’Tselem’s response to memo for new NGO legislation

Israeli Minister of Justice Ayelet Shaked (The Jewish Home party) attains unprecedented heights of cynicism when she uses the word “transparency” to camouflage her objective: maligning and defaming organizations critical of the Occupation and opposed to government policy. Even as things now stand, without the need for any bill, B’Tselem proudly and gratefully makes public a list of its contributors. B’Tselem will carry on undaunted, striving to expose the truth of reality in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

If the minister of justice and the prime minister are so concerned over foreign intervention in Israeli politics, they ought to start by waiving the millions from foreign business tycoons they receive for the benefit of primary elections. These foreign monies constituted the overwhelming bulk of contributions received by the heads of the Likud and Jewish Home parties.
