Statistics on Palestinian minors in the custody of the Israeli security forces

At the end of April 2013, approximately 236 Palestinian minors were held in Israeli prisons as security detainees and prisoners. Another 21 Palestinian minors were held in Israel Prison Service facilities for being in Israel illegally. The IPS considers these minors – both detainees and prisoners – criminal offenders. The following figures were provided by the Israeli military and the IPS.

  1. Beginning in August 2008, the figures include Palestinian prisoners who are residents of East Jerusalem. In  its figures for previous months and years, the IPS did not include these prisoners in their figures on Palestinian prisoners.

  2. The statistics presented above indicate the number of Palestinian minors who are residents of the Occupied Territories held by the IPS and the IDF on the specific date listed. B'Tselem does not have statistics on the total number of minors held by the IDF in a particular month. B'Tselem also does not have statistics on minors held by the Israeli Police.
