Testimony: Settlers throw stones at cars on the Huwara-Jit road, hitting Muhammad M’aali in the head, March 2008 Muhammad M'aali, merchant
I am a distributor for the Hani al-'Ajawi Company, and travel to towns and villages in the West Bank to deliver goods. Yesterday, 3 March 2008, I was driving a 1999 white Volkswagen from Ramallah to 'Ajja. My boss, Hani 'Amriyah, was sitting next to me. Around 8:15 P.M., we passed by Yitzhar. There were 5-6 settlers at the entrance to the settlement and they threw stones at us. A stone came through the windshield and hit me in the forehead. Immediately afterward, another stone hit me in the head. The blood splattered over my face, and I couldn't see. Then I lost consciousness. I woke up around 1:00 A.M. in Rafidyah Hospital. They doctors said a Red Crescent ambulance had brought me to the hospital. They said I had a fractured skill and a wound to the forehead, which they closed with seven stitches. In the morning, Hani came to visit and told me I had lost consciousness after I was injured, and that he had driven the vehicle to get away from the settlers. About a kilometer and a half later, he stopped an army jeep, told the soldiers what happened, and summoned an ambulance, which brought me here. The attack was a surprise. I don't know why they did it. I am still very frightened. Driving at night is very dangerous nowadays. Muhammad Najeh 'Abd a-Latif M'aali, 25, resides in 'Ajja, Jenin District. He gave his testimony to Salma a-Deba'i at Rafidyah Hospital on 4 March 2008. |
