2010: Serious violations and isolated improvements
In its end of year summary, B'Tselem warns that the continued settlement enterprise and siege on Gaza prevent any real human rights improvement. There was a decline this year in Palestinian casualties, and in rocket-fire at Israel, as well as easing of West Bank movement and a decision to ease imports and exports from Gaza. At the same time there was a dramatic increase in house demolitions and restrictions on demonstrations.

Palestinian expelled from Jerusalem withdraws petition to High Court
On 29 Dec., 'Adnan Gheith withdrew his petition to Israel's High Court of Justice contesting the order issued by the Home Front commander restricting him from entering Jerusalem for four months. Prior to the hearing on his petition, Gheith said that he did not believe the court could make a just decision in his case and that a decision approving his expulsion might create a precedent for expelling other political activists from Silwan and East Jerusalem.

Video: Soldier assaults B'Tselem worker on latter's land
On 18 Nov. '10, Nasser a-Nawj'ah, a B'Tselem worker, came with a camera to his family's land in the southern Hebron hills, where soldiers were detaining two of his relatives who had been grazing sheep there. A soldier claimed he was forbidden there and violently arrested him.
