B'Tselem has called on Hamas to respect the basic rights of Gilad Shalit, and called on the Hizbollah to respect the rights of Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser.

The Geneva Conventions clearly delineate the obligations of all parties to a conflict, including both Hamas and Hizbollah. Until their release, the three Israeli soldiers must at all times be treated humanely. They must be protected from all violence, receive any necessary medical treatment, adequate food, and be able to practice their religion freely. They must also be allowed to send and receive letters from their families, and the ICRC must be able to visit them.
