20 May 2004: B'Tselem to Attorney General: Declare that House Demolitions are Illegal
B'Tselem has sent an urgent letter to Israel's Attorney General Menachem Mazuz, calling on him to declare that the IDF plan to demolish hundreds of houses in Rafah in the Gaza Strip is illegal. The importance of Mazuz's role as the voice of restraint in the government decision-making process assumes heightened importance given the reckless behavior of the government and the IDF in Rafah in the past week. Approval of the IDF's house demolition plan will grant a legal stamp of approval to human rights violations. B'Tselem calls on the Attorney General to make the only legal and reasonable decision and prevent the continued destruction in Rafah. |
